Thank you for visiting our web site. We are serious about the business of raising superior registered Angus seedstock and maintaining a family farm.

We are a family owned and operated beef cattle farm that was begun in 1967. The home place is 170 acres of hay ground and pasture, and we rent an additional 125 acres of hay ground and a heifer development pasture. We are located in the apple producing ridge area of eastern Ottawa County and just 12 miles west of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The farm is operated by Gary and Shirley Voogt, who along with daughter Michele, live at the farm headquarters. Son Zachary and his wife Wendy, their twin boys Aaron and Jordan and daughter Madison, live on a second home on the farm. Daughter Kelly and her husband Marc Jacobsen and their sons Brandon and Neal own 5 acres adjacent to the farm and hope to build in the future. All of us are included in the daily operation.

The pastures are all fenced with high tensile and are rotationally grazed. All hay for  winter feeding is produced on the farm. The cattle facilities include the original barn, which is used for hay storage and heifer development, a 54'x80' machinery and hay storage building, two calving buildings, a yearling heifer and bull development facility, a herd bull pen and yard, and a state of the art livestock handling facility, which includes an electronic scale and computerized weight / rate of gain recording system.

The farmstead was improved in 2002 to include a waste handling and retention basin /filter strip system to protect the environment and promote cattle well-being and health.

Voogt Farms has been verified by the Michigan Agricultural Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). We participate in and are certified by USDA's Comprehensive Manure Management Program. We are a TB-free farm, and five family members have been tested and certified as Five State Quality Beef Producers. In 2007 Voogt Farms was credited Negative fro Johne's Disease We have been recognized by the American Angus Association as the 3rd largest Angus breeder in Michigan, so we carry a lot of responsibility toward pure and valuable genetic improvement. In 2006, Voogt Farms was recognized as the Michigan Cattlemen Association’s 2006 Purebred Breeder.

Gary and Shirley receive the 2006 MCA Purebred Breeder of the Year award from Dr. David Hawkins of Michigan State University.
