Voogt Farms is primarily in the purebred Angus Bull supply business. We keep our genetics fresh and retain only the best calves for potential breeding bulls. Almost all of our bull customers can use more marbling, tenderness and red meat yield in their calves, so we design the bulls to excel in those traits. On balance, of course, calving ease and good growth are still vitally important, as are maternal traits.

All bulls are enrolled in competitive testing programs. We maintain a bull test facility here at the farm and also participate in the MSU Bull Test. Either source is handy for our loyal Michigan customers. Because we have also gained some loyal customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia, we also test bulls in southern Indiana at Purdue University. In 2006 we sold bulls in 4 states.

We are looking over the Angus bulls in the 2007 calf crop. We believe your next bull should also be sorted at a competitive bull test center where only the most worthy sell. This year’s bulls are predominantly from Mytty In Focus.

By the extensive A.I. use of BonView New Design 1407 we have reduced birth weights to where calving assistance is now very rare at Voogt Farms. 1407 is also genetically superior in growth, milk and marbling. His daughters make up a majority of our cow herd.
